What is eSIM? Can I use eSIM too?

What is eSIM?

eSIM is a digital SIM card, a data file that can be downloaded to a mobile device over the network. With it, all kinds of electronic devices can connect to the internet, make calls, send text messages, and more. Functionally, it is no different from a regular SIM card. Any device that can connect to a mobile network can use eSIM. Of course, the device hardware must support eSIM. eSIM solutions integrated into hardware or phones currently take up only one-third the space of a Nano SIM card, and will continue to evolve toward smaller sizes in the future.

Pros and Cons of eSIM:

Pros:

- No need to insert or remove a physical card; you can switch to eSIM just by setting it up on the device

- eSIM does not require a card slot, which can save device space and help create thinner, lighter devices

Cons:

- At present, devices that support eSIM are still mainly iPhone and Google Pixel models, and some older phones may not be compatible.

Does my phone support it?

How to check whether your phone supports eSIM
Brand Method
Apple Method 1: Go to "Settings" → "Cellular" → if you see "Add eSIM" or "Add Cellular Plan"
Method 2: Dial "*#06#" directly on your phone. If an EID code appears on the screen, it is supported; if no EID appears, it is not supported
OPPO Method 1: Dial   *#06#  directly on your phone. If an EID code appears on the screen, it is supported; if no EID appears, it is not supported
Method 2: You can also go to "Settings" → "About phone" → "Status information". If EID appears in the information field, it is supported; if not, it is not supported
Samsung  Method 1: Go to "Settings" → "Connections" → "SIM manager" → if you see "Add eSIM"
Method 2: Dial "*#06#" directly on your phone. If an EID code appears on the screen, it is supported; if no EID appears, it is not supported

How to use:

- Use your phone to scan the QR code provided by eSIMFUN
- Tap Add Cellular Plan and follow the steps to set up the plan
- Turn on the added cellular plan
- Turn on mobile data (if you are abroad, check whether data roaming should be enabled depending on your plan)

How is it different from a traditional SIM card:

  eSIM Traditional SIM card

Mobile number usage

Scan directly to add a cellular plan

Manually replace the SIM card

IoT applications

Fast and convenient

Not fast, not convenient

Traveling abroad

Ready to use immediately

Buy the card in advance at the store

Functionally, there is actually no difference between the two. Whether it is data transmission, network quality, or speed, there is no difference because of these two. If you care more about convenience, or if you're someone who likes the latest tech, you'll probably choose it anyway : )
